China's First Self-developed Intercontinental Airliner C929 Makes Progress: Getting Ready for Airworthiness Application

According to the latest disclosure by Jie Yuwen, Deputy Director of the Airworthiness Certification Center of the Civil Aviation Administration of China in Shanghai and leader of the C919 aircraft model qualification review group, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) is currently carrying out relevant work before applying for airworthiness for the C929, with plans to submit a type certificate application to the Civil Aviation Administration by the end of the year.

The Shanghai Certification Center has also been involved in preliminary research to better establish standards and address technical challenges.

Tong Yu, Deputy General Manager of COMAC Customer Service Company, previously revealed that the C929 is steadily advancing in its preliminary design, and it is believed that "the prototype of the C929 will be seen in the near future."

Tong Yu also estimated that the test flight of the C929 may come "very soon."

On April 15th, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China held the C929 project kick-off meeting.

Experts attending the meeting were divided into six specialized groups, including overall aerodynamics, fuselage structure, composite structure, avionics, mechanical systems, and propulsion systems, and conducted a week-long discussion.

He Dongfeng, Chairman of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, stated that as China's first independently developed intercontinental airliner, the C929 holds significant importance in enhancing the spectrum of domestically produced commercial aircraft, driving the development of the commercial aircraft industry.

Key specifications of the C929 include: seating capacity of 280, maximum design range of 12,000 kilometers, cruising speed of 0.85 Mach, maximum takeoff weight of 247.5 tons, maximum landing weight of 190 tons, maximum takeoff field length of 2900 meters, and maximum landing field length of 1900 meters. 333d81e8-22e3-4492-ada2-f9bf2de10671.png
