On April 17th, according to the "Big Aircraft" WeChat public account, the joint development kickoff meeting for the C929 project was held at Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).
After the opening of the conference, experts in attendance were divided into six thematic groups: overall aerodynamics, airframe structure, composite structure, avionics, mechanical systems, and propulsion systems, for a week-long discussion session.
Chairman He Dongfeng of COMAC stated that as China's first independently developed intercontinental airliner, the C929 holds significant importance in enhancing the spectrum of domestically produced commercial aircraft and driving the development of the commercial aviation industry.
He Dongfeng previously revealed that the C929, as a long-range wide-body airliner, is planned to accommodate 250 to 350 seats, with a range of up to 12,000 kilometers.
According to Wu Guanghui, the chief designer of the C919 and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the C929 adopts a green design concept with low fuel consumption, low noise, and low emissions, employing a series of measures to reduce carbon emissions.
For instance, it utilizes comprehensive modular avionics technology to reduce the weight of onboard equipment, incorporates advanced aerodynamic technologies such as next-generation supercritical wings and variable camber wings to enhance aerodynamic efficiency.
The usage of advanced composite materials is increased to over 50% to reduce the aircraft's structural weight. It also adopts high bypass ratio low-noise turbofan engines and extensively employs biofuels to achieve lower fuel consumption during cruise phases.
