China's Electronic Social Security Card Users Reach 986 Million in Just 6 Years

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, as of the end of March 2024, the number of social security card holders nationwide has reached 1.38 billion, covering 98% of the population. The concept of "recording a lifetime, ensuring a lifetime, and serving a lifetime" is being upheld, and a basic five-level social security service network covering both urban and rural areas has been established.

At the same time, 986 million people have already obtained electronic social security cards.

On April 22, 2018, China issued the first nationwide unified electronic social security card.

On June 16, 2023, the number of users of electronic social security cards nationwide exceeded 800 million.

The main functions of the electronic social security card include: querying personal social security insurance certificates, calculating enterprise employees' pension insurance benefits, querying personal social security rights certificates, applying for pension insurance relationship transfers, social security benefit qualification certification, unemployment registration, querying social security card application status, vocational training vouchers, calculating unemployment insurance benefits, and personal pension information.
