The Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau of Changsha recently issued a notice to various communities, announcing a large-scale trade-in event for old home appliances across the city from April 20th to 21st. The special subsidy for this event is expected to reach 39 million yuan.

Changsha residents who register in advance can visit 18 Tongcheng Electrical Appliance stores in the urban areas of Changsha before the weekend. The event organizers promise that on the day of the event, all products in the store will be priced lower than the official flagship store prices on the internet, with an additional subsidy of at least 5% to 30% on top of the factory price. Additionally, participating in the trade-in subsidy event will entitle customers to receive subsidies ranging from 100 to 1200 yuan for trading in old appliances. The notice also provides some details of popular products participating in the event.
At noon today, a reporter from the Financial Association visited the flagship store of Tongcheng Electrical Appliance in Wujialing. The store was relatively quiet, and when the reporter inquired about the special event mentioned earlier, the staff all confirmed having received relevant notifications. "There is no need to collect extra vouchers. You can register by scanning the QR code on the notice, and you can come directly on the day of the event," said a staff member of the Wujialing flagship store to the reporter from the Financial Association.
At the flagship store of Tongcheng Appliances in Wujialing, a Caixin reporter observed that several appliances mentioned in the notice, such as the 75-inch smart TV from Hisense and the Cobos floor-washing robot, were not displayed on-site today. Store staff reassured that this would not affect normal sales on the special weekend.
In terms of discounts, some products, after applying subsidies, were priced as low as 30% off the market price. For instance, a certain brand of fingerprint smart lock, with a market price of 1699 yuan, was discounted to 499 yuan after applying the subsidy coupon. Additionally, the iPhone 15 (256GB) was priced at 5489 yuan after the subsidy, approximately 88% of the market price. Another embedded dishwasher, after subsidy, dropped from 4999 yuan to 2599 yuan.
It is worth mentioning that the notice mentioned a special subsidy of 39 million yuan, but the source of this funding was not specified in the document. When Caixin reporters asked Tongcheng Holdings about whether the government would provide corresponding subsidies for this subsidy, a relevant person from Tongcheng Holdings replied, "We hope so."
Caixin reporters also noted that besides Changsha, many other places have announced specific subsidy methods and amounts. For instance, Suzhou will launch the "Home Appliances Trade-in" season on April 20th, with a total subsidy of 20 million yuan; Nanjing plans to launch a policy toolkit around five aspects: automobiles, home appliances, furniture, refined oil, and finance, to promote the "Spring Renewal Season" trade-in consumption promotion activity.
Furthermore, at a mobilization meeting in Foshan City to promote large-scale equipment renewal and consumer goods trade-in, the person in charge of trade-ins at Midea Group (000333.SZ) stated that all Midea's full range of home appliance brands would participate in the trade-in action. Through their own concessions and government support, they aim to provide discounts to consumers.
