On April 12th, reports from media outlets confirmed that TikTok is set to release a photo sharing app called TikTok Notes.

In recent days, many foreign users have been sharing screenshots of pop-up windows from the TikTok app on social media, indicating the imminent launch of this new application. s_c16eb33f57ab48e4acb6623f3147113a.jpg TikTok users have received pop-up notifications stating that they can choose whether to share their existing photos on this new app.

The core function of TikTok Notes is similar to Instagram and Xiaohongshu, focusing on sharing images and text. This strategy suggests TikTok is aiming to attract users who may not be interested in video content or being filmed.

Karen North, a media studies professor at the University of Southern California, interprets that TikTok's development of a photo-sharing app doesn't mean videos are no longer the primary focus of content creation. However, TikTok also wants to appeal to the majority of people who don't enjoy videos or being recorded.

Furthermore, TikTok is continuously exploring and experimenting with new content formats. For instance, the company is testing videos of up to 30 minutes in length, as well as text post features similar to X and Threads. These initiatives aim to further enrich TikTok's content ecosystem and meet the needs of different users. s_aec9d4ca6cb44699b986e3a6985f3fd4.png
