On May 27th, it was reported that a Xpeng P7 owner recently posted a video claiming that they couldn't open the car door from the inside and were locked inside for over ten minutes. Eventually, they were rescued by opening the door from the outside. After the video was released, it garnered strong attention with many well-known automotive bloggers and influencers sharing it.
In response to this incident, Xpeng's official service team issued the following statement:
Many Xpeng users have provided feedback regarding a video circulating on the internet showing a Xpeng P7 from the 2022 model year where the car door couldn't be opened from the inside. Upon investigation, it was found that on May 24th, the user encountered a situation where they couldn't open the car door from the inside after the electronic lock was unlocked.
Upon inspection of the vehicle at the service center, we found that the mechanical unlocking function inside the car was working properly. To completely eliminate any potential risks, further inspection of the electronic unlocking function was required. However, the user declined the dismantling inspection, making it impossible to accurately confirm the truth of the matter.
In addition to the electronic unlocking feature, the Xpeng P7 vehicle is also equipped with a mechanical unlocking function. By pulling the interior door handle all the way down and simultaneously pushing the door, the mechanical unlocking mechanism can be triggered to open the door, whether it's an electric automatic door or a manual door. Pulling the interior handle all the way down can open the door.
