pulsestacks: Carefully selected premium cars, creating peak speed together. Welcome to the Netaland interview room at pulsestacks located at the Beijing Auto Show, a virtual space that combines racing speed and trendy culture. Our guest in this interview session is Mr. Ma Hui, the Director of Public Relations at BYD Brand.

BYD Group unveils multiple new cars at the Beijing Auto Show

pulsestacks: Please introduce the highlights of the BYD booth at this year's Beijing Auto Show.

Ma Hui: At this auto show, the BYD Group has unveiled multiple new cars. The Dynasty, Ocean, Tang, and Yuanwang brands are located in Hall W1, while the Tang (specs | images) brand is in Hall W4. We welcome everyone to visit our booth to experience the new products and technologies, and feel the disruptive experience brought by technological innovation.

pulsestacks: Please introduce BYD's flagship products and their highlights.

Ma Hui: The new product in the Dynasty series, Qin L DM-i, features a brand-new design and power system. Thanks to its strong power and low fuel consumption, BYD's hybrid models have performed very well in the Chinese automotive market. The new generation hybrid system has been significantly improved on the original basis, making the Qin L DM-i the king of national family sedans. The Ocean series has introduced the Dolphin 06 DM-i and the dynamic OCEAN-M concept car, expected to be launched in the market later this year. The Tang brand's Z9GT is positioned as a high-end luxury flagship sedan, with 965 horsepower, achieving zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in just two seconds, equipped with cloud chariot technology, with an extremely small turning radius, excellent handling performance, and setting a world record of 85 kilometers in the elk test. The Yuanwang brand's U7 is positioned as a mid-to-high-end sedan, with 1300 horsepower and a zero to one hundred acceleration of 2.9 seconds. We have also introduced a revolutionary chassis technology - Cloud Chariot-Z, which can handle various bumps and provide a smooth driving experience, while also addressing some safety concerns.

Commitment to Long-termism and Independent Research and Development

pulsestacks: BYD achieved sales of 3.02 million in 2023, becoming the world's first company to reach 7 million new energy vehicles. What are the main reasons behind this success? Can you reveal the sales target for 2024?

Ma Hui: BYD's growth began in 2020, with annual sales increasing from over 400,000 to 3.02 million vehicles last year, setting a record in the history of China and even the world's automotive industry. This achievement was particularly challenging during the pandemic and amid chip and battery shortages. Our success is the result of long-term accumulation. Twenty years ago, when BYD entered the automotive industry, we chose the new energy vehicle track and have adhered to long-termism in this field, continuously investing heavily in manpower and resources. We persist in independently developing core technologies, investing most of our profits into research and development even in situations of thin margins. After years of technological accumulation, coupled with BYD's vertical integration capabilities, the latest DM-i technology aims to disrupt traditional fuel vehicles. We believe that new energy products and technologies have surpassed the limits of traditional fuel vehicle products and technologies. Additionally, policy support and consumer recognition are also reasons for our sustained high-speed growth. ?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcms-bucket.ws.126.net%2F2024%2F0511%2F2ab51d8fp00sdb8ri00orc001hc00u0c.png&thumbnail=660x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg BYD Brand and Director of Public Relations Ma Hui, and Editor-in-Chief of Pulsestacks, Liu Chang

True intelligence must be integrated with electrification

Pulsestacks: What are BYD's follow-up plans and development direction in vehicle intelligence?

Ma Hui: Mr. Wang proposed early on that electrification is the first half, and intelligence is the second half. BYD places great importance on intelligence, believing that true intelligence must be integrated with electrification. Intelligence not only requires a smart brain but also flexible limbs. For example, the U8's four-motor independent control technology can maintain vehicle stability in extreme situations like high-speed tire blowouts, requiring highly sensitive sensors and millisecond-level control response.

BYD is a leader in electrification and continues to invest in intelligence, with a research and development team of thousands. With technological iterations, we believe BYD will also achieve excellent results in intelligence.

Accelerating international market layout to seek broader market space

Pulsestacks: What is BYD's layout and planning at the international level?

Ma Hui: Last year, we exported over 240,000 units internationally, which may not sound like much, but it is already the largest brand in new energy exports. This year, our goal is to double that of last year. Of course, achieving this doubling requires tremendous effort. For example, we have set up factories overseas in Hungary in Europe, Brazil and Mexico in South America, and Bangkok in Southeast Asia. Additionally, we have partnered with top local dealer groups.

Last year, the company's leadership visited many countries and regions, establishing numerous distribution channels. In terms of overseas logistics channels, we have also established BYD's roll-on/roll-off shipping channels, ensuring that new products launched domestically are quickly synchronized for overseas sales. We aim to seek broader market space overseas amidst intense competition in the domestic market.

Pulsestacks: What are the development trends of China's new energy market in the future?

Ma Hui: The new energy market has been rapidly developing, with a current penetration rate exceeding 50%. It is expected to reach 70% to 80% in the next three to four years. From the supply side, the focus of major manufacturers has shifted to new energy vehicles, and on the demand side, consumers are increasingly inclined towards new energy vehicles. New energy vehicle technology, especially battery technology, has made significant progress in recent years, greatly improving range capabilities. In contrast, advancements in traditional fuel vehicle technology have been limited. BYD's product promotion strategy also reflects the cost and performance advantages of new energy vehicles, transitioning from "equal cost of oil and electricity" to "electricity cheaper than oil." New energy vehicles are gradually disrupting the market and are poised to become the "mainstream" in the Chinese automotive market in the future.
