On April 19th, according to a post from "Guozi Xiaoxin" official WeChat account, the final pair of stay cables of the Mochai Wujiang Extra-large Bridge on the Yuxiang Expressway, constructed by China Railway Construction Port and Shipping Bureau, have been successfully installed. This signifies the completion of the installation of all stay cables on this bridge, which is acclaimed as Asia's tallest pier cable-stayed bridge.
As a pivotal control project of the Yuxiang Expressway, the Mochai Wujiang Extra-large Bridge spans across the Wujiang River and G211 National Highway, with a total length of 708 meters.
The main span of the bridge is located on a curve, designed as a 602-meter-long, two-way, four-lane cable-stayed bridge with low towers, utilizing a continuous rigid structure system. The construction scale and technical requirements of the bridge are both at a high level, presenting considerable construction challenges.
Notably, the height of Pier No. 3 of the bridge reaches 216 meters, making it not only the tallest pier along the Yuxiang Expressway, but also the tallest pier among similar bridges in Asia.
To ensure the stability and safety of the bridge, a total of 84 cable stays have been installed, with each cable stay consisting of 73 steel strands. The installation of the cable stays involves multiple procedures, including cableway installation, cable hanging, tensioning, and adjustment, all of which demand high complexity and precision.
The completion of the installation of all the inclined cables of the Wujiang Extra-large Bridge in Mochai marks the beginning of the final sprint phase of the bridge construction. It is expected that the bridge will achieve closure on July 1st, forming a fast passage to the sea from Chongqing and connecting the counties of Pengshui and Youyang.
The bridge's network function will intersect with the G65 Baozhu Expressway and the Youyang-Yanhe Expressway, forming a regional expressway loop. This holds significant importance for improving the transportation conditions in southeastern Chongqing and northern Guizhou, accelerating the networked construction of trunk national and provincial highways.
Additionally, the completion of the Yuxiang Dual-line Expressway will promote the development of the tourism industry along its route. It will play a profound role in alleviating the congestion on the existing Yuxiang Expressway, enhancing the close connection between various districts and counties in southeastern Chongqing, advancing the integration of transportation and tourism, and driving the sustained and rapid economic and social development along its route.
