On April 5th, a blogger released a video alleging that a mountaineering team encountered a charge from a wild yak while trekking through snowy terrain, fortunately resulting in no injuries to personnel.

The video depicts a mountainous area blanketed in snow, with six or seven climbers making their way forward when a yak charges towards them from a distance, prompting shouts and screams from the climbers as they scatter.

However, the yak ultimately did not directly collide with the climbing team. The blogger who posted the video stated, "Encountered an attack by a wild yak while traversing snowy terrain, fortunately, no injuries were sustained by personnel." f385e88f-9dde-45b1-8003-c28cc85b4647.jpg The blogger's video purportedly took place in the Mengda National Nature Reserve in Qinghai. On the 6th, reserve staff stated that they couldn't definitively confirm the event solely based on the video. Currently, the reserve is closed to the public.

The tourism department of Xunhua County, where Mengda Reserve is located, clarified that the area consists mainly of pristine forests, not grasslands, and does not host wild yaks.

A staff member mentioned that the terrain in the video resembled that of Mengda Reserve, but couldn't confirm it with certainty. Due to fire prevention measures, the reserve is only open to the public from May to November, with closure during other months.

Presently, the reserve remains closed, with staff guarding the main entrance and several mountain passes round the clock. Climbers entering through other routes are considered unauthorized and may face reprimand if caught.

Additionally, it's highlighted that most areas within Mengda Reserve lack signal coverage, posing significant challenges for rescue operations. Even professional expeditions require prior approval from the reserve authorities.

Regarding the wild yaks, the staff mentioned no prior sightings within the reserve, suggesting that if the video indeed depicts the reserve, the yaks might have been released by nearby herdsmen.

In recent news, a self-driving tourist group in Qinghai's Haixi Mongolian Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture was successfully rescued after being stranded and missing. 047d7c11-9a44-40b1-b70e-1ce44fa01115.jpg According to public information, the Mengda National Nature Reserve is located in Xunhua Salar Autonomous County, Haidong City, Qinghai Province, covering a total area of 17,290 hectares. Established as a national nature reserve in April 2000, it primarily focuses on the protection of forest ecosystems and lakes.

Outdoor enthusiasts advise that when hiking or mountaineering and encountering wild yaks, it's best not to provoke or make any aggressive gestures. Instead, maintain concealment and be prepared to retreat at any time.
