On May 17th, during the 31st "International Day of Families" and the National Family Education Promotion Period, the Beijing Normal University School of Journalism and Communication, the Research Center for Minors' Internet Literacy, the Beijing Family Education Research Association, the China Internet Association's Committee for the Protection and Development of Minors' Internet, "Parenting Essentials" Magazine, Future Net, and Tencent jointly hosted the unveiling ceremony of the "Smart + Support for Building a Better Future Home" - a large-scale family education model launch event and "AI + Family Education" seminar at Beijing Normal University.
Beijing Normal University Unveils Family Education AI Model
At the event, Beijing Normal University, together with Tencent, industry associations, and experts, presented the first domestic "Family Education AI Model" and launched the "100 Questions on Family Education" toolkit, upgrading the "Parent Service Zone" to provide parents with a one-stop digital solution for family education in the digital age.
In 2023, facing the overwhelming and fragmented information flow of parent-child education online, the "Parent Service Zone" mini-program for minors' parents went live. Developed jointly by Beijing Normal University's School of Journalism and Communication and Tencent, the platform served 2.8 million parents in less than a year, covering areas such as online protection, communication skills, parent-child relationships, habit improvement, and mental health.
"In assisting parents, we found that many children's behaviors reflect deeper and more complex social issues. These common issues can be systematically addressed through AI tools, combining our counseling experience with empathy, motivational analysis, practical methods, and educational tools to reduce the cost of family education. At the same time, we provide families with an effective intelligent education solution," said Ma Ying, Head of Tencent's Underage Protection Camp Education, proposing new considerations for family education in the AI era.
To achieve this, Beijing Normal University, Tencent, industry associations, and experts collaborated to create the "Family Education AI Model" and introduced an innovative "Model + Volunteer Service" mode to offer tailored education advice and solutions to parents. Leveraging Tencent's underlying technology of the Hybrid AI Model and scientific family education theories distilled from over 100,000 real cases, the Family Education AI Model transforms scattered knowledge and practical experience into a systematic digital knowledge base. Through text, video, digital tools, and more, AI can provide intelligent and efficient educational guidance for parents of different needs, scenarios, and age groups, becoming a digital education partner for families.
Furthermore, addressing the common doubts and needs of parents in family education, after assisting with thousands of difficult tutoring cases, Ma Ying, based on the experience of over 100,000 real family cases, led over 30 experts to collect the most concerning issues and pain points of parents, resulting in the creation of the "100 Questions on Family Education" toolkit.
During the forum, Yu Guoming, Director of the Innovation and Future Media Experimental Platform at Beijing Normal University, pointed out that today's social connections are increasingly diverse, and the success of education largely depends on the ability, mode, and mechanism to break through these circles. The internet technology revolution provides us with new scenarios, platforms, and technological possibilities. For example, games serve as a platform for connecting circles, allowing for more interaction and communication with teenagers, which is, in fact, the best platform to influence them. In the future, how to effectively guide and cultivate teenagers using gaming platforms is an important topic for development.
