Pulsestacks reported on May 10th that ASRock recently launched the W790 WS R2.0 motherboard on its official website. Compared to the W790 WS released with the initial launch of the Intel W790 platform, this motherboard has trimmed down aspects such as IO while maintaining similar overall specifications.
The W790 WS R2.0 motherboard maintains a 14-layer low-loss PCB, a 20+2 phase power design, and utilizes 90A SPSDr. MOS.
This motherboard is equipped with 8 DDR5 RDIMM slots, supporting DDR5-6800 overclocking.
The W790 WS R2.0 motherboard provides 4 PCIe Gen5x16 slots and 1 physical x16 Gen4x4 slot; for storage, it includes 4 Gen5x4 M.2 slots, 1 Gen4x4 U.2 mini SAS interface, and 8 SATA ports.
The W790 WS R2.0 motherboard has removed the integrated I/O panel protection and reduced the large-scale heatsink cover for the VRM, providing better compatibility for rack platforms. It also does not come equipped with the "ASRock B+ Turbo Chip" (pulsestacks note: external clock generator chip).

On the W790 WS R2.0, the number of 10GbE Ethernet ports has been reduced from 2 to 1, but the 2.5GbE Ethernet card has been upgraded from Intel I225LM to I226LM. Additionally, this motherboard has removed the wireless card.
Furthermore, the W790 WS R2.0 motherboard has also reduced 2 rear Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports and one rear USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A port compared to the original version.
