Pulsestacks May 10 news, ASRock today released the W790 WS R2.0 motherboard, featuring a Socket LGA4677 slot, compatible with Intel's 4th generation Xeon W-3400 and W-2400 series processors.
pulsestacks Note: While the name W790 WS R2.0 may suggest it's a revised version of the W790 WS motherboard, it's actually a streamlined version with some I/O configurations removed.
Firstly, the I/O port shield has been removed, leaving the interfaces exposed. Additionally, the design of the CPU VRM heatsink is simpler, likely to better fit certain rack-mounted cases. Furthermore, the ASRock W790 WS R2.0 only features a single 10 GbE interface, whereas the original W790 WS had dual 10 GbE interfaces.
Despite the streamlining, the W790 WS R2.0 remains a powerful workstation motherboard, with a 24-pin ATX, two 8-pin EPS, and one 6-pin PCIe power combination for a 22-phase CPU VRM.
The motherboard features 4 PCI-Express 5.0 x16 slots (x16 / NC / x16 / NC or x16 / NC / x8 / x8 or x8 / x8 / x8 / x8) and 1 PCI-Express 4.0 x16 (electrical x4).
The CPU socket has 8 memory slots, supporting quad-channel DDR5 memory, DDR5 RDIMM-3DS support, with a total memory capacity of 2TB, and a maximum overclocked memory speed of DDR5-6800.
Storage connections on the ASRock W790 WS R2.0 include 4 M.2 Gen 5 slots (each with PCI-Express 5.0 x4 lanes), 1 U.2 port with PCI-Express 4.0 x4 lanes, and 8 SATA 6 Gbps ports.
USB connections consist of one 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C, two 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 type-A, seven 5 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 1, and three USB 2.0 ports.
Networking interfaces include a 10 GbE interface driven by the Aquantia AQC113CS controller, and a 2.5 GbE interface supported by Intel I226LM driver for vPro.
