March 18th, tech aficionado Mark Gurman confirms that Apple is set to rebrand its long-standing "Apple ID" to "Apple Account" later this year.

The rumor mill started churning recently when MacRumors leaked Apple's plans to rename "Apple ID" to "Apple Account" as early as this year.

With a comprehensive brand overhaul slated for later this year, the term "Apple ID," which has been in use for over 20 years, will gradually fade into history.

Gurman stated today that the new moniker "Apple Account" will debut in the upcoming major software updates from Apple, such as iOS 18 for iPhone and watchOS 11 for Apple Watch, expected to drop later this year.

Previously, Apple has referred to funds added to an Apple ID as "Apple Account Balance," and internally, there exists an "Apple Account" team within the company.

While the exact reasons behind Apple's decision remain unclear, it's possible that "Apple Account" aligns better with the company's branding strategy.

Apple is poised to unveil iOS 18 and other significant software updates at the WWDC developer conference in June, where they might officially announce the rebranding plan before rolling it out on a larger scale starting in September. Sfb55ed37-1516-4653-b4c6-0ebe3423015f.png
