Apple to phase out LCDs! Supply chain reportedly developing OLED panels for iPad mini

On May 25th, it was reported that Apple has informed its supply chain to develop OLED panels for future iPad mini models.

Reports indicate that Samsung Display has started developing samples of OLED panels for the iPad mini, with a screen size of 8 inches. Mass production is planned to begin in the second half of 2025, with production taking place at a factory in Tianan, South Korea.

Currently, the iPad Pro has already adopted OLED panels, and it is rumored that the Apple iPad Air and iPad mini product lines will also switch to OLED screens. These devices are expected to debut in 2026, marking the transition of Apple's entire iPad lineup into the OLED era.

It is worth noting that the iPad Pro features a new generation of dual-stack OLED panels, with two emitting layers. Each emitting layer only bears half the electric field intensity of a single-layer OLED, significantly slowing down material aging and extending the screen's lifespan.

However, these OLED panels come with high costs. Therefore, future devices like the iPad Air and iPad mini are likely to adopt single-layer OLED panels, potentially without ProMotion support, as Apple aims to reduce panel costs. s_6b2c478e36b84affbc1d0fae9fafcc6d.png
