Apple Reportedly Ceases Production of FineWoven Accessories Due to Poor Durability

According to a report from Pulsestacks on April 22nd, Apple has halted production of iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands made from FineWoven material. This decision comes following user feedback citing inadequate durability of the FineWoven fabric. FineWoven was introduced during the September 2023 unveiling of the iPhone 15 series, intended to replace the previously used leather accessories. ?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2024%2F0422%2F30e43994j00scbhsp0014d0016o00o0g.jpg&thumbnail=660x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg However, many users have criticized the durability and feel of this new material, especially noting issues such as peeling and scratching after several weeks of use.

Pulsestacks noted that Apple introduced FineWoven with the intention of making their products more environmentally friendly. At launch, Apple emphasized the "durable microtexture" and "suede-like" feel of this material. Apple claims that FineWoven contains 68% post-consumer recycled materials and has significantly lower carbon emissions compared to leather.

Following the introduction of FineWoven, Apple completely discontinued leather accessories. While Apple has not officially announced the discontinuation of FineWoven accessories, leaker Kosutami claims that production has ceased. Currently, there is still inventory available for purchase on the Apple website, but it is expected to sell out quickly. ?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2024%2F0422%2Faca496a0j00scbhsp00awd000e000pwg.jpg&thumbnail=660x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg It is reported that Apple will adopt another non-leather material to replace FineWoven in the future, and specific details may be announced at the iPhone 16 series launch event later this year.

Since the launch of FineWoven material for phone cases and watch bands, many users have expressed dissatisfaction with its durability and overall quality. Major issues include edges of the material easily peeling off, and the fabric surface prone to scratches resembling those on old CDs. These issues may have been the main reasons for Apple discontinuing FineWoven accessories.
