On April 9th, it was reported that in 2018, a former Apple engineer named Huang Wei was driving a Tesla Model X when it collided with a highway safety barrier while the Autopilot system was activated, resulting in his death.

Subsequently, Huang Wei's family sued Tesla, alleging that the involved Model X lacked safety features such as automatic emergency braking.

On April 8th, Tesla took the defendant's seat in court regarding the accident, hoping to have Apple testify on its behalf during this trial.

According to media reports, court documents show that Tesla has reached a settlement regarding Huang Wei's fatal crash.

It is understood that in March 2018, Huang Wei was commuting in his own Model X and had activated the Autopilot system. However, during the journey, the car suddenly collided with a concrete barrier in the middle of the road and caught fire, resulting in Huang Wei's immediate death.

Reports indicate that Huang Wei's Model X deviated from a "faded and almost disappeared" lane marking, and then began to travel left along a clearer lane marking, which led to the tragedy.

After an investigation, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) found that both the Autopilot system and driver distraction contributed to the accident. Phone data showed that Huang Wei was playing a mobile game at the time.

Tesla has also admitted to the NTSB that Autopilot is designed for areas with "clear lane markings." s_8d2d255ddb8e48688f07c2cd788c3bcc.jpg
