According to the latest report from analysts at Hai Tong International Technology Research, Apple is actively considering adjustments to its A18 Pro chip to meet the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) on the device side. This move underscores Apple's continued focus on cutting-edge technology and highlights its increasingly significant role in the field of AI.
Jeff Pu mentioned that Apple is ramping up production of the A18 Pro chip earlier than before, indicating the company's heightened emphasis on the next generation of chips. This proactive increase in production also suggests Apple's optimistic outlook for the demand for the A18 Pro chip.
JeffPu also noted, "Based on our supply chain checks, we see a continuous increase in demand for Apple's A18, while sales of its A17 Pro have remained stable since February. We observe that Apple's A18 Pro (6GPU version) will feature a larger chip area compared to the A17 Pro, which may signify a trend towards edge artificial intelligence computing."
However, increasing chip area comes with a host of challenges, including the risk of potential defects and design flaws, as well as impacts on energy efficiency and heat dissipation performance. Therefore, before Apple plans to launch the iPhone 16 later this year, they must ensure that the A18 Pro chip reaches a new balance point in all aspects to ensure its performance and stability meet user expectations.
Additionally, according to Bloomberg, Apple is planning to separate its artificial intelligence features, with some relying on cloud infrastructure (potentially in collaboration with Google), while others will run entirely on-device.
