Another Boxy SUV from China: The New-Gen Beijing BJ30 Debuts with Hybrid Powertrain and 1000km Range

March 21st News, Beijing Automotive unveiled the new-generation BJ30 Magic Core Electric Drive Edition.

Positioned as a "mild off-road" SUV, the new BJ30 retains the boxy shape of its predecessor with straighter lines and a rugged stance.

The design incorporates the classic family style, featuring a five-slot fascia that replaces the traditional grille with a "Five-star Halo Daytime Running Light" strip. s_4acd66003d1d40f489008cabb5eb8505.png The new BJ30 has grown in size compared to its predecessor, measuring 4,730/1,910/1,757(1,790) mm in length, width, and height, respectively. Its wheelbase has also been stretched to 2,820 mm, putting it on par with some joint venture mid-size SUVs.

The exterior features black wheel arches and trim, accentuating its rugged character. The Powertrain: A Core Strength

At the heart of the new vehicle lies its powertrain, featuring a hybrid system. The highly efficient 1.5T engine, boasting a thermal efficiency of 41%, delivers a maximum output of 116kW and a peak torque of 235Nm. The system's combined maximum power reaches 206kW, with a peak torque of 450Nm. This enables a 0-100km/h acceleration of 7.54 seconds and an impressive combined cruising range of 1000 kilometers.

Market Positioning and Competition

Upon its market launch, the latest generation BJ30 will face fierce competition from boxy SUVs such as the Haval Big Dog and the Chery Jetour Traveler. However, its lower entry price may give it an edge, potentially making it a popular choice among young consumers seeking their first boxy SUV.
