Android 15 may offer an option to force dark mode on stubborn apps

While Android 15 is still in the early testing phase, many new features have already been discovered that may appear in the stable version. Recently, some code indicates that Android 15 might introduce a feature that automatically turns off the phone screen when not in use, which is a very practical privacy protection feature.

In a new APK teardown, Mishaal Rahman (via Android Authority) shared a glimpse of a hidden feature that allows you to force dark mode on all apps on your phone, even if these apps do not natively support dark mode. ?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2024%2F0426%2F73e57496j00scjypj000vd000hs00fkg.jpg&thumbnail=660x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg Dark mode is a very popular feature nowadays because it provides a more comfortable viewing experience. Most people immediately switch to dark mode when they get a new phone. Dark mode also helps to save battery life.

Unfortunately, not all applications support dark mode. One solution is to set "Override force-dark" in the "Developer options." This feature has a limitation. Although it can apply dark mode to applications, the effect is not satisfactory and often makes text unreadable in applications.

As Mishaal discovered, the hidden "Turn on all apps dark" toggle option under "Settings" > "Accessibility" > "Color and appearance" is more user-friendly than the "Override force-dark" developer option, which has been available since Android 10.

After toggling the switch, Mishaal found that the "Turn on all apps dark" switch works well without messing up text or images, similar to the effect of the "Override force-dark" option, but with improved application effects due to changes in the underlying algorithm. Additionally, since this feature is located under the "Accessibility" section in the "Settings" menu, it is not hidden from users.

From the screenshots, it can be seen that while there is room for improvement in the "Turn on all apps dark" feature as it still reduces the contrast of certain buttons, its output is much better than the "Override force-dark" option. ?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2024%2F0426%2F4558c9c4j00scjypj000yd000hs00a0g.jpg&thumbnail=660x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg
