AMD Zen5 Processor Gets Renamed Again! Staying Ahead of Intel with Creative Name Changes

AMD's next-generation laptop mobile processor, Strix Point, set to be released in the second half of the year, was initially planned to be named the Ryzen 8050 series. However, to emphasize AI capabilities, it was changed to the Ryzen AI 100 series. Surprisingly, there has been another name change!

According to the latest leaks, Strix Point is now named the "Ryzen AI 300" series. There are two reasons behind this new naming choice. s_0656bb71516e44f9a0eeff959c8073e3.jpg The official statement follows the algebraic calculation of NPU - the first generation is the Ryzen 7040 series with the codename Phoenix, the second generation is the Ryzen 8040 series with the codename Hawk Point, and naturally, Strix Point is the third generation, upgraded with the new architecture XDNA2.

The reason it can't be said is that Intel currently has the Core Ultra 100 series, and the next generations Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake will be in the Core Ultra 200 series. If AMD names their series Ryzen 100, it may seem "one generation behind," which they naturally can't accept.

It seems quite reasonable...

Currently, there are two known models, namely Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and Ryzen AI 9 365, but it's not yet clear what exactly "HX" represents.

AMD will officially unveil Strix Point at the beginning of June at the Taipei Computer Show, featuring the new Zen5 CPU architecture, RDNA3+ GPU architecture. Stay tuned.

PS: AMD's APU was named the A8, A6, A4 series in the past, also to "lead" the Core i7, i5, i3 series, and later even developed into A10, A12. s_7e5f9500a8ac45fb876b466ef1231c85.png
