AMD MI388X Accelerator Card Exclusively for China Blocked by US Government

AMD's next-generation GPU accelerator cards, the MI300A and MI300X, boast formidable power to challenge NVIDIA. However, they can't be sold to China due to restrictions imposed by the US government. In response, AMD created a special edition exclusively for China called the MI09. Despite its tailored approach, the US government still deemed its performance too potent and prohibited its sale.

In a document submitted by AMD on January 31st of this year, the name "MI388X" surfaced, acknowledging that it too cannot be sold to China.

Clearly, this is yet another GPU accelerator card product customized by AMD for the Chinese market, evidenced by its thoughtful naming convention. Unfortunately, it has still been intercepted.

AMD also confirmed in the document that products such as the MI250, MI300A, and MI300A are prohibited from being sold to the Chinese market. Even high-end FPGAs like Versal VC2802 and VE2802 are included in the ban.

AMD stated that the aforementioned products cannot be directly sold to Chinese customers, and even those belonging to companies located in D5 countries won't be authorized for purchase.

However, the document did not list the MI309, which could possibly indicate that it was developed at a later stage. s_1e0da35fee8f44f0aa843e1ba4a93ca7.png
