Reports from several domestic media outlets on April 20th revealed that the recent rare thunderstorms in the United Arab Emirates have left Dubai's transportation system still struggling to fully recover.

One Dubai resident described the rainstorm as "unprecedented," likening it to an alien invasion.

Public reports indicate that the UAE experienced heavy rainfall on the 16th, with experts noting that the amount of rain nearly equaled the yearly average and marked the highest recorded rainfall in 75 years.

Experts explained that Dubai's climate falls within the category of a tropical desert climate, typically controlled by subtropical high pressure or trade wind belts, mainly influenced by tropical continental air masses characterized by high annual average temperatures, significant annual temperature fluctuations, and even greater daily temperature variations, with minimal precipitation.

However, the occurrence of such extreme rainfall leading to flooding is indeed an extremely rare phenomenon.

Some experts attribute Dubai's heavy rainfall to global climate extremes, suggesting that ongoing global warming and intensified climate change are contributing factors, with various rare extreme weather events being observed in other parts of the world as well. s_bc25dc7f4cea44f3bc52f5851e385da0.png
