On May 2nd, it was reported that a video of a traffic accident involving a Tesla Model Y in the urban area of Ganzhou, Jiangxi, was shared by a netizen.
The video shows a Tesla Model Y with temporary plates violently crashing into a row of parked cars, causing the Model Y to roll in the air several times due to the strong impact.
The vehicle was driven by a woman, and although the car suffered severe damage, the airbags deployed correctly, and the occupants were protected by wearing seat belts.
According to a report from the Public Security Bureau of Dayu County, Ganzhou, Jiangxi, at around 2:30 p.m. on May 1, 2024, a small ordinary minibus, while traveling on Nanan Avenue in Nan'an Town, Dayu County, collided with road facilities and a vehicle parked on the side of the road due to improper emergency pedestrian avoidance maneuvers.
The accident resulted in one person seriously injured, three people with minor injuries, and nine vehicles damaged inside the small ordinary bus. There were no other casualties. The injured are being treated, and accident response efforts are currently underway.
Currently unsure if this Tesla Model Y has enabled one-pedal driving mode. Since the new car has not been registered yet, there is a possibility that the driver may accidentally press the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal when making an emergency maneuver to avoid pedestrians.
Note: One-pedal driving mode allows the vehicle to accelerate and decelerate based on the driver's pedal input, as the driver keeps their foot on the accelerator pedal.
In emergency situations, the driver may not have enough time to switch their foot to the brake pedal, and in some cases, they may mistakenly press the accelerator pedal thinking it is the brake pedal.
It is advised that one-pedal driving mode is suitable for experienced drivers, and it is not recommended for novice drivers to use this mode.
