A purported iOS 18 design asset hints at a UI style reminiscent of visionOS

A new image of the "Camera" app may offer the first glimpse into the rumored visionOS-inspired redesign for iOS 18. An anonymous source obtained the aforementioned iPhone frame template, claiming it was acquired from an iOS engineer. Allegedly, it will serve as part of Apple's design resources for iOS 18, aiding developers in visually designing applications using software such as Sketch and Photoshop. ?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2024%2F0403%2Fd6683ae1j00sbbpzq000cd000hs00a0g.jpg&thumbnail=660x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg We can't verify the authenticity of this image, but we believe it's worth sharing because it aligns with previous rumors. In February of this year, the Israeli website The Verifier claimed that iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 would feature design elements inspired by visionOS. The operating system of the Vision Pro headphones features a high degree of depth transparency, with edges of buttons reflecting like glass.

For instance, the Apple TV app on iPadOS 18 evidently will adopt a semi-transparent navigation bar similar to last year's tvOS 17.2 version of the app. The design of this menu bears a noticeable resemblance to visionOS. Reports suggest that Apple also plans to redesign various system menus and built-in apps on iOS 18, including Safari. ?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2024%2F0403%2F554e9716j00sbbpzq000sd000hs00a0g.jpg&thumbnail=660x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg The Verifier's track record with Apple rumors has been mixed over the years, but Bloomberg's Mark Gurman later suggested that Apple is indeed working on a redesign of iOS, "as early as this year." He also speculates that iOS may incorporate some design elements from visionOS in the future, although Gurman doesn't expect a "complete overhaul mimicking visionOS." Therefore, the extent of the potential redesign remains uncertain.

While Gurman hints that the redesign might not materialize this year, his conviction about the redesign of iOS 18 was stronger in his November newsletter. He mentioned that Apple's senior management described iOS 18 as "ambitious, eye-catching," featuring "significant new features and designs."

The purported iOS 18 camera app design assets seem to align with these reports, indicating that Apple has substantially rethought visual elements based on visionOS. Apple is expected to preview iOS 18 at the annual WWDC developer conference on June 10. The first beta version should follow shortly after the event. The update is slated to be released to all users in September alongside the iPhone 16 series.
