On April 17th, the Qingpu Police in Shanghai reported the dismantling of two criminal gangs involved in the production and sale of substandard electric bicycles during a targeted operation on electric bicycle safety.

The operation took place on the evening of April 15th, resulting in the arrest of 8 suspects. Authorities seized 950 battery sets and 4 modified electric bicycles at the scene.

Investigations revealed that since late 2021, suspects Su and Sun, while running a business selling and servicing a certain brand of electric bicycles, secretly provided services to illegally modify these bicycles. To boost sales, they illegally altered standard 48V batteries to 60V or 72V and removed the speed limits, allowing the bicycles to reach speeds of 45 km/h.

By the time of their arrest, they had sold over 300 modified electric bicycles, with the total value involved exceeding 1 million yuan.

Additionally, the police shut down two battery sales locations and arrested five individuals including Chen. These individuals knew that Su and Sun were purchasing batteries for illegal modifications but continued to supply them in large quantities.

To date, the case involves over 3 million yuan, with a total of 950 battery sets confiscated at the scene.

The eight suspects are currently detained under criminal charges for selling counterfeit products, with further investigations ongoing. s_2e0febe21b4e480ab17f2ad2b6a733a1.jpg
