Unveiling with a whopping 6.2GHz out of the box, boasting a 15% performance boost in gaming compared to its predecessor, Intel revealed the full specifications and release details of the Core 14th Gen processor, the i9-14900KS, on March 14th.
Last year, the i9-13900KS set the bar high with its turbo frequency reaching up to 6.0GHz. Now, a year later, the brand-new i9-14900KS breaks the family record, claiming the title of the fastest desktop processor in Intel's history.
With Intel's Thermal Velocity Boost technology pushing the turbo frequency to 6.2GHz, gamers can expect an even more exceptional gaming experience. Moreover, according to Intel's disclosed test results, it also holds an advantage in productivity compared to its competitors.
In terms of specific specs, the i9-14900KS utilizes Intel's 7nm process, boasting 24 cores (8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores) with 32 threads, 36MB of L3 cache, and supports 3200MT/s DDR4 and 5600MT/s DDR5 memory (up to 192GB).
It offers a total of 20 PCIe lanes (16 PCIe 5.0), integrated with Intel UHD 770 graphics, compatible with Z690 and Z790 motherboards, with a base power consumption increased from 125W of the i9-14900K to 150W.
In terms of gaming performance, not only is there an improvement over the previous generation, but when compared to the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, the i9-14900KS leads in 9 out of 18 games tested by Intel by over 5%, with the difference in 5 games being within 3%.
Additionally, with support from Intel's Adaptive Performance Optimizer (APO), the i9-14900KS can further boost gaming performance, achieving up to an 11% improvement in "Metro: Exodus."
According to Intel, APO currently supports 14 games, including new additions such as "Red Dead Redemption 2," "Dirt 5," "F1 2022," "World of Warcraft," and "Final Fantasy XIV."
In terms of productivity, the i9-14900KS outperforms the Ryzen 9 7950X by 5% in Office productivity tests, 6% in web browsing tests, 7% in photo editing, and 12% in video editing.
It's worth noting that according to Intel, the i9-14900KS shows a performance improvement of up to 1.73 times compared to competitors in multitasking workflows involved in virtual production.
The 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900KS is set to hit the shelves on March 14th, with a suggested retail price starting at $689. Global retailers will offer it in boxed retail packaging, or it will be integrated into end products by Intel channels and OEM partners for subsequent release.
