Amidst the rapid evolution of digital technologies, we find ourselves in an era brimming with excitement, where pivotal trends are shaping the next wave of innovation. The interplay and mutual advancement of 5G and AI technologies, for instance, are revolutionizing numerous industries, hastening the development of the digital economy, and altering how we perceive and interact with the world, all while paving the way for a brighter future.
Speaking at the recent "Frontiers Interdisciplinary Forum on Youth Science and Technology Policy," Xia Quan, Vice President of Qualcomm Global, highlighted the robust partnerships the company has forged with Chinese industry partners over the past 30 years. Now, as innovative technologies like 5G and AI extend their reach into novel sectors, Qualcomm is continuously cultivating fresh collaborative relationships in China. In the automotive sector, the entire industry is undergoing a wave of innovation, with cars becoming electrified, connected, intelligent, and shared. Particularly when new models are launched, there is an emphasis on the various intelligent connected features, such as advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving. These innovative features promise to bring people a safer, more efficient, and more comfortable driving experience, while also introducing new business models such as connected shared vehicles and connected fleets to the industry. This transformation in the automotive sector also brings unprecedented opportunities for development to China. In 2023, China's automotive exports surged to the top of the global rankings, establishing China as a key driver of global new energy vehicle industry development.
Amidst this transformation, Qualcomm has been supporting the development of China's automotive industry. From 5G connectivity technology to cockpit integration and intelligent driving, Qualcomm has been collaborating with Chinese partners to propel the rapid development of the automotive industry. Since 2021, Qualcomm has partnered with over 40 Chinese automotive brands and introduced more than 100 new models based on Snapdragon digital platforms. In China, the application of 5G technology has penetrated 71 out of 97 major categories of the national economy, with over 94,000 application cases. Among these, "5G + Industrial Internet" stands out as a key domain. Currently, the number of 5G industrial internet projects has surpassed 10,000. Qualcomm is actively driving the implementation of innovative 5G technology in the field of industrial internet, thus promoting its innovative development.
For instance, in 2022, Qualcomm collaborated with the China Academy of Industrial Internet (CAII), China Telecom, and Quectel to establish a 5G private network solution based on Qualcomm's innovative technology at the Tongli Elevator Factory in Kunshan Industrial Park, Jiangsu Province. This initiative aimed to create a fully connected 5G factory. In September 2023, the project was recognized as a "Demonstration Case of Technological Innovation Services" at the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS). Furthermore, in November of the same year, it was included in the "2023 5G Factory Directory" compiled by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Xia Quan stated that Qualcomm is positioned at the intersection of mobile connectivity, mobile computing, and other crucial innovative technologies. Not only can it provide the most advanced and comprehensive solutions for partners across various industries in China, but it can also leverage Qualcomm's global resource deployment advantage to assist Chinese industry partners in achieving win-win cooperation in the global market, thereby creating significant growth opportunities for the global ecosystem.
