The Sichuan Earthquake Center's mobile app also issued an earthquake warning, pinpointing the epicenter at Muli County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan, with the earthquake occurring at 11:07:09 on May 27th, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale.
It is reported that Tencent collaborated with the Sichuan Provincial Seismological Bureau last year to launch the Sichuan Province Earthquake Early Warning platform on WeChat Mini Program.
On May 12th this year, the mini-program completed its function optimization upgrade, supporting users to set multiple focus areas, adding multiple report aggregations, and adding earthquake rapid report alerts.
At the same time, Tencent and the Sichuan Earthquake Administration once again joined forces, and the earthquake early warning function was officially launched on the QQ City Assistance Platform.
According to the official account of the Sichuan Earthquake Administration, "earthquake early warning" is the use of the faster propagation speed of electromagnetic waves compared to seismic waves after an earthquake occurs. It issues early warning alerts a few seconds to tens of seconds before the destructive seismic waves strike, in order to reduce earthquake disaster losses.
Currently, Sichuan has the ability to issue earthquake early warnings 5-15 seconds after earthquakes of magnitude 5 or above throughout the province. Various means are used to disseminate early warning information, with WeChat and QQ being among the channels for dissemination.
