Form 4 is a powerful and cost-effective tool that can print most parts within two hours, enabling professionals to turn their ideas into reality at an unprecedented speed with unmatched reliability, print quality, and ease of use.

SOMERVILLE, Mass. - April 17, 2024 - Formlabs has introduced the fastest and most reliable professional-grade 3D printer: the Form 4 and Form 4B. The new desktop resin 3D printers feature Formlabs' proprietary Low Force Display™ (LFD) printing engine, updated industry-leading resin library, added automated post-processing capabilities, and improved user experience, setting a new standard for additive manufacturing. Compared to the Form 3+, Form 4 offers print speeds increased by 2-5 times, empowering product designers, engineers, manufacturers, healthcare professionals, and innovators to elevate productivity to new levels, enabling them to take design risks and accelerate time to market.

Max Lobovsky, CEO and Co-founder of Formlabs, said, "The Form 4 is not only a huge leap forward for Formlabs and our customers but also for the entire 3D printing industry. Since pioneering desktop stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing technology a decade ago, Formlabs has been committed to innovating in precision, reliability, user-friendliness, and cost-effectiveness in 3D printing technology. With over 130,000 printers sold worldwide and over 300 million successful printed parts, Formlabs has accumulated rich industry experience and technical strength."

As the company's fourth-generation desktop resin 3D printer, the Form 4 delivers ultra-fast print speeds, high reliability, industry-leading material properties, excellent print quality, and intuitive operation, raising performance to new heights.

Key Highlights of Form 4:

  1. Faster Printing Speeds: Significant improvement in print speed with a 30% increase in build volume, resulting in print speeds 2-5 times faster than the previous generation Form 3+. Most print jobs can be completed within two hours, with small parts taking only minutes.

  2. Next-Generation LFD™ Printing Engine Technology: Form 4 adopts Low Force Stereolithography™ (LFS) technology, different from laser and galvanometer techniques, featuring ultra-high-power backlight (16mW/cm²), proprietary peel texture, Light Processing Unit 4, and dual-layer flexible film resin tanks, ensuring print success.

  3. Unmatched Reliability: The print success rate of Form 4 is enhanced by validated print settings, precise heating systems, force sensing technology, and debris detection, ensuring the expected print results to a great extent.

  4. Industrial-grade Print Quality: Form 4 offers high-resolution 50-micron pixels, highly collimated light sources, advanced pixel smoothing technology, and touch-release supports, collectively achieving industrial-grade print quality in detail and accuracy.

  5. Intuitive Ease of Use: The operation process of Form 4 is simple and intuitive, even for beginners to master within 15 minutes. It also features technologies such as automatic resin loading, easy material replacement, automated post-processing, and quick release build platforms, making the entire printing process more convenient.

  6. 40% Reduction in Unit Costs: By using durable resin tanks (capable of over 75,000 layers) and Light Processing Units (capable of over 1 million layers), along with reduced resin prices (33%) and increased print volume (30%), Form 4 significantly reduces the production cost of individual parts while increasing output (3.5 times).

"We support all hardware categories at Microsoft. For projects requiring tight tolerances and engineering-grade materials, the Form 4 is our top choice. It not only produces high-performance parts at amazing print speeds but also supports model makers in making multiple iterations within 24 hours," said Mark Honschke, Additive Manufacturing Manager at Microsoft.

"The speed and material versatility of Form 4 enable us to create multiple prototypes and manufacturing aids every day. So, the printer has changed the way parts are designed and produced, significantly improving our product development efficiency," said AM/IM Engineer Bruno Alves of Ford Motor Company.

Leading Industry Materials with More Affordable Prices

In addition to the new printers, Formlabs has introduced six new resins to its resin library, including:

  • Four reformulated general-purpose resins compatible with the Form 4 ecosystem, with print speeds two to five times faster than Form 3, and improvements in toughness and color.
  • Fast Model Resin for rapid prototyping and orthodontic model production.
  • Precision Model Resin for producing consistently precise dental models. In addition, Form 4 has been verified to work with over 17 additional high-performance materials from the Formlabs material library, with new materials being regularly added in the future. Form 4B is tailored for innovative healthcare professionals in the dental and medical industries and is compatible with 15 other biocompatible materials.
