Lenovo Holdings Former Chairman Zeng Maozhao Passed Away at the Age of 92

On March 6th, it was announced via the official WeChat account of the "China Computer Federation" that Comrade Zeng Maozhao, a lifelong member and honorary director of CCF, executive vice chairman of the fourth and fifth sessions of the Council, vice chairman of the sixth and seventh sessions of the Council, renowned computer expert, former director of the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and former chairman of Lenovo Holdings Limited, passed away due to illness. He passed away on March 4, 2024, in Beijing at the age of 92.

Zeng Maozhao graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1957 and served as the director and researcher at the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as the deputy leader of the advisory group for electronic computers of the State Council's Electronic Revitalization Leadership Group.

Zeng Maozhao was one of the pioneers in China's computer magnetic recording field. He participated in and led the development of external devices and control systems for large and medium-sized computers such as the 104 machine, 119 machine, 109B machine, 109C machine, 717 machine, 013 machine, and 757 machine. In 1984, he was recognized as one of the first batch of "Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions to the Nation."

Zeng Maozhao supported and encouraged researchers to establish the New Technology Development Company of the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (predecessor of Lenovo) in 1984. He was later appointed as the chairman of Lenovo by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (from 1988 to 2009), playing a crucial role as a leader, promoter, and supporter in the initial establishment and subsequent growth of Lenovo. s_492a40b4569e443bb904179901acf792.jpg
