Chery's Yin Tongyue: Transitioning from an Automotive Giant to a Powerhouse Requires a Recognizable Chinese Brand

On March 5th, during the second session of the Fourteenth National People's Congress, Yin Tongyue, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Chery Holding Group, addressed the question of how China's automotive industry can ascend to greater heights on the global stage.

Yin stated, "Simply relying on sales volume and scale isn't sufficient for China to transition from an automotive giant to a powerhouse. We need a recognizable Chinese brand."

It's worth noting that 27 years ago, Chery started its journey from a few small grass huts with shortages in funds, technology, and talent.

Today, alongside other Chinese automakers and joint venture brands, Chery has played a crucial role in bolstering China's manufacturing prowess, positioning the country as the world's largest exporter.

Last year, China produced and sold approximately 30 million vehicles, with exports reaching around 5 million units. Chery alone accounted for nearly 1 million exports, maintaining its position as the top Chinese brand in passenger vehicles for 21 consecutive years.

Yin emphasized that transitioning from a world automotive giant to a powerhouse requires more than just sales volume and scale. It necessitates mastery of key core technologies and the establishment of a globally recognized brand that commands respect from others. s_9cfcc5d8c0904956a8127ec666ef7274.png
