On March 4th, a video surfaced online depicting a rather startling experience for a driver who received a navigation alert of a "fast vehicle approaching from behind," only to be overtaken by the same vehicle seconds later.

The video, captured on the Huangshi Expressway, shows the moment when the voice prompt from the Amap navigation app's "Xiaotuantuan" voice pack announced, "Fast vehicle approaching from behind." Shortly after, a white Volkswagen swiftly zooms past from the right lane.

The man behind the wheel expressed his astonishment, saying, "While marveling at the powerful navigation function, it practically left me dumbfounded. After hearing Xiaotuantuan's alert, I almost thought my car was equipped with phased-array radar."

Netizens chimed in with jest:

  • "The Xiaotuantuan on the speeding car must be squealing by now: 'Overspeeding again, slow down!'"

Amap stated that this service is currently available on highways and urban expressways nationwide.

When users utilize Amap's lane-level navigation, the system can promptly alert users and provide suggestions based on the high-precision positioning technology of the BeiDou system. This includes instances such as unusual lane occupation (due to road repair or obstacles), sudden braking or slow-moving vehicles ahead, fast-approaching vehicles from behind, and incoming merging traffic, facilitating preemptive actions like lane changes, deceleration, or braking, particularly useful during inclement weather conditions like rain or snow. s_352ce0b635734f7ca7a9ccf880b83252.png
