On March 4th, news broke that Anant, the son of Mukesh Ambani, Asia's richest man and chairman of Reliance Industries, and his fiancée Radhika Merchant, held a three-day pre-wedding celebration in their hometown of Jamnagar.
Reportedly, this pre-wedding bash cost nearly $120 million and hosted around 1200 guests, including high-profile figures like Ivanka Trump, daughter of former US President Donald Trump, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, making it a star-studded event. Attendees were provided with a detailed nine-page document outlining the dress code requirements for the three-day affair.
Anant, 28, is the youngest son of Mukesh Ambani, and his remarkable weight loss journey, shedding 108 kilograms in just 18 months, had been an inspiration to many. However, to the surprise of many, he appeared to have regained weight at the pre-wedding festivities.
It's been reported that Anant previously weighed around 208 kilograms. Under the guidance of coach Vinod Channa, Anant managed to shed 108 kilograms (approximately 216 pounds) over 18 months through strict dietary plans and 5 to 6 hours of daily exercise, garnering significant attention.
However, recent photos of Anant and his fiancée Radhika Merchant at the pre-wedding celebrations left netizens shocked as it seemed he had gained back a considerable amount of weight. Subsequently, health experts suggested that Anant's asthma and steroid intake might be contributing factors to his weight regain.
His mother, Nita Ambani, revealed in a 2017 interview that Anant suffers from severe asthma and requires extensive steroid injections, which have led to weight gain. She disclosed, "Anant suffers from severe asthma, so we have to give him a lot of steroids. He suffers from obesity. Therefore, treatment for asthma has resulted in a significant increase in weight."
According to experts, asthma symptoms make it more challenging to exercise or stay active. Prolonged steroid use can increase hunger, leading to weight gain. Additionally, these medications affect metabolism, promoting fat storage, especially around the abdominal area. Fluid retention caused by oral steroids can also contribute to weight gain, "which is why patients taking steroids to control asthma symptoms often experience significant weight gain."
