Wuhan University of Technology's Hubei Provincial Outstanding Engineer Institute was officially established in July last year and is set to be located at the Chegu campus of Wuhan University of Technology. The institute aims to explore a collaborative development model between universities and regions, focusing on strategic emerging industries such as new energy and new materials, as well as key technologies in frontier areas. It seeks to align with the industrial innovation and development needs of the Wuhan Economic Development Zone, address common key technological issues in related industries, achieve significant scientific and technological breakthroughs, cultivate a group of outstanding innovative talents, and contribute to the high-quality development of the Wuhan Economic Development Zone.

The Chegu campus of Wuhan University of Technology, a joint venture between the Wuhan Economic Development Zone and Wuhan University of Technology, is a major industrial project for the creation of the Wuhan National Science and Technology Innovation Center and the comprehensive national science center in East Lake, Hubei Province. The campus is planned to house the Fusion Demonstration College of Artificial Intelligence and Industry, the Industrial Technology Research Institute for New Energy Vehicles, and the Industrial Technology Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence. In the three major areas of intelligent vehicles, intelligent transportation, and intelligent manufacturing, it will establish seven innovation platforms, including new energy vehicles and key components, intelligent connected vehicles, and road intelligent transportation technology. Currently, the main structure of the Chegu campus has been fully capped, and interior decoration, electromechanical installation, and other projects are progressing rapidly. It is scheduled to be put into use in September this year, welcoming its first batch of students and faculty.
