SAIC Motors CEO: SAIC's Hybrid Technology Leads Japanese Cars by Two Generations

Thu, Feb 29 2024 11:50 PM EST

On February 26th, it was reported by domestic media that Zhao Aimin, Secretary of the International Party Committee and Vice General Manager of SAIC, revealed during a communication meeting on overseas operations of SAIC Group that the SAIC MG3 hybrid will debut at the Geneva Motor Show, marking the beginning of a new chapter in its overseas sales.

He pointed out that although Japanese cars started hybrid technology earlier, their early and well-developed progress has also confined their technological path. If they want to make new breakthroughs, they need to make new investments.

On the other hand, SAIC currently holds an advantage in electric-drive technology, which provides better handling during acceleration and start-up processes, especially with increased battery capacity.

SAIC's hybrid technology is already ahead of the hybrid technology currently on the market, equivalent to advancing by two generations of technology. Additionally, the cost advantage of Chinese manufacturing is more pronounced, and this feature is believed to be fully reflected in overseas markets.

It is reported that at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show, the new generation MG 3 from MG will be officially unveiled, featuring a hybrid system composed of a 1.5-liter engine and an electric motor.

Furthermore, it's worth mentioning that in January 2024, SAIC Group achieved overseas sales of 80,000 vehicles, with MG being the sales star among SAIC's export lineup. s_9ee27eb7c6244cde8379c7625a5c2fa0.png
