They can manufacture an A-class family sedan for "79,800" and also produce a pure electric supercar priced at 1.68 million.
Last night, BYD's high-end brand, Yangwang, launched its second model, the Yangwang U9, with a price tag of 1.68 million CNY. The new car is available in only one variant, with deliveries expected to start in the middle of the year.
The Yangwang U9 is positioned as a "million-level pure electric performance supercar," featuring the Yisifang and Yunnian-X core technologies, and equipped with four independent electric motors, achieving acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds.
Let's dive into its design.
The overall design of the Yangwang U9 is quite unique, with the "Door of Time and Space" family design language offering a striking visual impact. The daytime running lights at the front adopt a radial line design, complemented by exterior contour lighting strips.
The front bumper area features a large cooling vent, and the front lip is made of carbon fiber material. The side profile of the car presents a low and wide stance, further emphasized by the electric butterfly doors, all declaring unmistakably that this is a supercar.
The new car measures 4966/2029/1295 (1338) mm in length, width, and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 2900 mm.
At the rear, it boasts a large-sized diffuser, vertical light strips on the rear window that connect with the car's contour, and is equipped with both a spoiler and a fixed wing for stability.
Inside, the car features a wrap-around design, extensively using carbon fiber and suede materials. It is fitted with a full LCD instrument panel and a vertically oriented central control screen.
Of course, the supercar is all about intelligence too. It features a custom 4nm 5G chip developed by BYD and Qualcomm, touted as the "smartest supercar cockpit" and the first supercar intelligent driving platform.
The vehicle is equipped with a total of 4 millimeter-wave radars, 8 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic radars. Intelligent driving assistance includes adaptive cruise control, automatic parking, remote parking, and more.
But that's just the beginning. The U9 introduces the industry's first self-developed racing assistant, covering nearly 30 professional racetracks nationwide. It can intelligently learn the racing line of professional drivers, allowing users to view data playback, conduct precise analysis, and transform into a private racetrack coach. Owners can even become "professional drivers" themselves.
Performance Marvel
Being a million-dollar supercar isn't just about looks; it's about real capabilities, like surpassing V12 engine performance.
The U9 is powered by BYD's Easy Four Square Four Motor technology, equipped with four high-performance motors. The total peak power can reach 960 kilowatts, with a comprehensive peak torque of 1680 Newton-meters. The maximum horsepower of the entire vehicle exceeds 1300Ps, with a peak speed reaching up to 21,000 rpm.
With such a powerful setup, the new car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds. Test runs have shown it can reach a top speed of 309.19 km/h. At the Shanghai International Circuit, it clocked a lap time of 2 minutes and 17.65 seconds.
The new car also adopts the user-friendly U-shaped motor design by EasyQuadrant, with a more compact size and lower center of gravity. Combined with the dual-motor, dual-controller deep integration design, and an efficient thermal management system, the sports car seamlessly integrates aerodynamics and lightweight design requirements.
The vehicle is equipped with an 80-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate blade battery pack, providing a range of 465 kilometers under CLTC conditions. It supports dual-gun supercharging, with a maximum charging power of up to 500 kW.
The danceable supercar
The YunNian-X Intelligent Active Body Control System provides the YangWang U9 with not only ultimate performance but also vehicle comfort. It utilizes high-power suspension control motors, with the motor, electronic control, and power source highly integrated. Featuring a full-domain 800V high-voltage platform, it has a rapid response time of 40ms. The peak single-axis lifting speed is 500mm/s, with a maximum adjustment range of 75mm, allowing for a quick elevation of 50mm.
Thanks to the enhancement provided by the YunNian-X Intelligent Active Body Control System, the YangWang U9 achieves a stable body posture both laterally and longitudinally, ensuring no drift during sharp turns, no lift-off during acceleration starts, and a bump-free experience.

It's evolved again! Now, with just a push of a button to activate "Dance Mode," the U9 can play music and start its solo dance routine.
It's reported that the first batch of U9s delivered will come standard with three features: "Dance Mode," "Freestyle Display," and "Track Warm-Up." Within "Dance Mode," there are 4 songs built-in, allowing it to dance to the rhythm.
The "Warm-Up Mode" can be activated with just one click, showcasing features like spinning in place. In the future, the official team will introduce more interactive and personalized customization options, rolling them out in phases for users to choose from. According to the official statement: "There will never be two identical U9s in the world."
No doubt, the launch of U9 marks another strategic move towards high-end sophistication for BYD, following the success of U8.
As BYD's million-dollar premium brand, Evergaze has garnered attention from both the market and consumers since its inception. The debut model, the million-dollar new energy rugged off-road Evergaze U8, set a strong precedent for the brand. Official data indicates that Evergaze U8 achieved impressive sales of 1592 units in December 2023, propelling it into the top tier of million-dollar high-end luxury vehicles. It has now entered the competitive arena alongside traditional powerhouses like Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
In January this year, the Yangwang U8 sold 1,652 new vehicles. In less than three months since its launch, it has cumulatively sold over 3,500 units. For a new car model priced at a million, this is quite an impressive achievement.
Compared to the Yangwang U8, the U9 is priced higher, and it's likely BYD's way of flexing its muscles. Although the Yangwang brand has not gone unnoticed, whether it can maintain its popularity and convert it into sales remains another significant challenge in BYD's strategy towards premiumization.
