The highly anticipated MWC 2024 officially kicked off today, and Lenovo, as a leader in the PC industry, unveiled a slew of new products. These include the much-talked-about ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop with its transparent screen concept, as well as the upgraded ThinkPad T14 Gen5, ThinkPad T14s Gen5, and the ThinkBook 14 convertible, among others.
This transparent screen concept laptop features a borderless design and is equipped with a 17.3-inch Micro-LED transparent display. Users can see through it to the content on the other side, giving it a futuristic appeal. With a maximum brightness of 1000 nits, the screen offers a sci-fi-like experience, although it has a resolution of only 720P. Thanks to its transparent features, it has the ability to seamlessly integrate virtual and real-world intelligence. Leveraging AIGC technology, transparent screens pave the way for enhanced work collaboration and efficiency, allowing the fusion of physical objects with digital information to create unique user experiences. This enables devices to naturally blend into their surrounding environment. Lenovo has stated that it will continue to enhance the transparency of its screens in the future to offer better privacy and increased visibility for interacting with real-world objects.
Additionally, rather than featuring a physical keyboard, it incorporates a touchscreen keyboard that can also switch to a drawing board mode, enabling creative design work with the use of a stylus pen. Currently, this product is still in the prototype stage, and it will require some time to validate its feasibility and market demand before it can be officially launched. It will take quite a while before it's ready for market deployment.
Lenovo has also introduced several models from the ThinkPad and ThinkBook series. Among them, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5, ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, and ThinkPad T16 Gen 3 can all be equipped with Intel Core Ultra processors, while the ThinkPad T14 G5 also offers the option of AMD Ryzen 8040U series processors.
They all feature the Communication Bar design, which extends part of the top bezel to accommodate the camera and microphone.
Moreover, these models break away from the traditional design of the ThinkPad series by relocating the Fn key from the outermost edge to the position of the Ctrl key, aligning them with the majority of laptop products currently available on the market. The ThinkPad T16 Gen 3 is a powerful and reliable laptop designed for professional use. It offers cutting-edge performance, durability, and security features, making it an ideal choice for business professionals, students, and anyone in need of a high-quality computing device. The ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 is a high-performance laptop designed for professionals and business users. It combines powerful computing capabilities with durability and reliability, making it suitable for demanding work environments. With its sleek design, lightweight construction, and advanced features, the T14s Gen 5 offers a seamless user experience for productivity on the go. The ThinkPad X12 Detachable has received an update after nearly three years, maintaining its distinctive detachable keyboard design, allowing users to seamlessly switch between laptop and tablet modes according to their needs.
Featuring a 12.3-inch 1920x1200 display, it is powered by Intel Core Ultra U-series processors, with up to 32GB of LPDDR5x memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. In terms of ports, it offers a Thunderbolt 4 port, a full-featured USB-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a Nano SIM card slot. ThinkBook has introduced the latest ThinkBook 14 Gen4 2-in-1 laptop, featuring a 16:10 FHD touchscreen display with 360° rotation capability, allowing for seamless transitions between laptop, tablet, tent, and other modes.
Powered by Intel Core Ultra processors, it boasts up to 64GB DDR5 RAM and a 2TB PCIe SSD for enhanced performance and storage capacity.
The standout highlight of this event undoubtedly goes to the concept product featuring a transparent screen, boasting a design straight out of science fiction and unique functionality.
While there have been previous iterations of transparent screen products, they have yet to see widespread adoption. This is partly due to the high cost and technical complexity of such products, as well as the question of whether there are practical applications for them. Despite the inherently futuristic and flashy nature of transparent screen designs, they cannot just be about aesthetics.
On this front, Lenovo seems to have been thinking ahead. They've explored ways to integrate physical objects with virtual content, turning the transparent surface into a keyboard or drawing pad, among other functionalities.
Although there are still many areas that need continuous optimization, this represents a bold attempt and exploration of the future. While other new products showcased are more conventional updates with some design tweaks, they all feature the latest generation Intel Core Ultra processors, embracing AI in PC technology across the board.
