Should "Old Folks' Joy" Vehicles Be Banned from Roads? Elderly Driver with "Safe

Tue, Feb 27 2024 12:22 AM EST

On February 26th, according to details released by Zhejiang traffic police, an elderly driver of a three-wheeled vehicle, adorned with a "Safe Passage" sticker on the windshield for good luck, collided with a sedan, resulting in the elderly driver being found fully responsible for the accident.

The three-wheeler driver claimed to have noticed the vehicle while making a turn and attempted to brake, but ended up overturning and colliding. However, video footage clearly shows that the driver himself made a mistake while driving.

The traffic police determined that the three-wheeler driver failed to ensure good visibility while driving and mishandled the situation, thus bearing full responsibility for the accident.

Since January 1st, 4 years ago, several regions have implemented policies or regulations aimed at prohibiting or restricting the unauthorized use of electric three or four-wheeled vehicles on roads.

The proposal to ban "Old Folks' Joy" vehicles from the roads is not discriminatory against the elderly nor targeted at specific vehicle manufacturers. Instead, it is a necessary measure to uphold traffic safety.

Previously, experts have outrightly stated that there should be a complete ban on "Old Folks' Joy" vehicles, as they pose a serious risk to road safety and are inherently unsafe. s_c66bff18e3414dda9bd56c1442253cbd.png
