On February 25th, according to a report from CCTV Financial Channel, many fruit prices experienced a significant drop after the Chinese New Year, especially for cherries and strawberries, which were priced higher before the holiday.
Reportedly, strawberries that were selling for over 300 CNY per box before the New Year can now be found for just over 100 CNY, almost halving in price compared to before the holiday. Many netizens exclaimed that they have finally achieved "strawberry freedom".
It's been noted that the prices of fruits tend to be higher before the Spring Festival due to increased costs in labor, logistics, and sourcing.
However, as the Spring Festival holiday comes to an end, market demand decreases while fruit supply becomes more abundant, leading to price reductions.
Generally, fruit farmers aim to bring their produce to market before the Lunar New Year. One grower mentioned that if they miss this timing and only enter the market after the Spring Festival, they would likely incur losses. For instance, the price of strawberries typically halves after the Spring Festival.
It's been reported that China is both the largest producer and consumer of strawberries. According to the "Analysis of China's Strawberry Industry Development Trends and Investment Prospects Report (2022-2029)", China's production scale of strawberries ranks first in the world, accounting for over one-third of the global strawberry production.
From 2011 to 2020, China's strawberry production saw overall growth, increasing from 2.009 million tons to 3.449 million tons. The compound annual growth rate from 2011 to 2020 was 6.2%.
