On February 26th, it was reported by foreign media that Nvidia has, for the first time, classified the Chinese tech giant Huawei as a competitor, sparking widespread attention.
Prior to this, in an interview, Huang Renxun expressed that Huawei is a great company with very strong technological capabilities, willing to give them credit.
Digging into more details from foreign media reports, Nvidia's move also signifies a shift in the global landscape of advanced process chipsets driving new AI technologies.
Nvidia states that Huawei is currently a competitor in four out of five areas, including AI-related graphics processors, large cloud service companies with internal teams designing AI-related chips, Arm-based central processors, and networking products.
The company mentioned in its report, "New competitors or alliances among competitors may emerge and gain significant market share."
Nvidia also includes Chinese tech companies Alibaba and Baidu as competitors in the cloud services sector.
One of the major players in the Chinese AI field, Huawei, has been developing a series of "domestic substitute" chips to replace Nvidia's chips. Nvidia's heightened alertness mainly stems from the strong technological support Huawei provides amidst the backdrop of domestic substitution.
In order to compete with Huawei, Nvidia is offering two new AI chip samples specifically tailored for the Chinese market to customers. However, due to regulatory restrictions, such products may not be favored by Chinese manufacturers too much.
