Fully ending traffic jams: Flying taxis could become a reality within the next three years

Sun, Feb 25 2024 12:04 AM EST

On February 25th, according to domestic media reports, more than 1,000 companies from over 50 countries and regions participated in the Singapore Airshow held this week.

One day in the future, humans may be able to commute to work by taking flying taxis, reducing a 40-minute car journey to a 10-minute flight. This is not a distant possibility and could become a reality within the next three years.

The CEO of an American electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft manufacturing company stated that flying taxis are not just a concept, but they are about to become a reality. In the future, people will no longer need to spend two hours stuck in traffic when traveling from the airport to the city center. Instead, they can quickly be transported to their destination by taking a "flying taxi".

Several domestic companies in China have also completed test flights and received airworthiness certificates for their electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft. 8c6e5d07c5694a288b06343bd0a02120.gif The M1 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, called "Yu Feng Future Vertaxi," successfully completed its maiden flight in January of this year. With a length of 10 meters, height of 3 meters, wingspan of 15 meters, and weight of 2 tons, it is designed to have a range of 250 kilometers and a cruising speed of up to 200 kilometers per hour. It has a maximum payload of 500 kilograms and can accommodate up to 5 passengers simultaneously.

The AE200 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft developed by Wo Fei Chang Kong has also successfully completed its maiden flight as a technology demonstrator.

It is the first eVTOL aircraft in the country to obtain the civil aviation authority's approval for airworthiness verification and acceptance. The standard cabin can carry one pilot and four passengers, with a maximum range of 200 to 300 kilometers.

The eVTOL aircraft, also known as "air taxis," will shorten travel times of 2 to 3-hour car journeys to around 30 minutes. In the future, they will mainly be used to meet the demand for short-haul air travel within and between cities. s_be5710f9005441e2a8b96781c493d2a8.png
