On February 25, Changan Automobile officially announced that the world's first super-extended range pickup truck, the Changan Hunter, will be officially launched on March 1. The vehicle has already started pre-sales, with prices ranging from 139,900 to 216,900 CNY.
The new car adopts the UNI series for its front face, giving it an overall more youthful appearance. Inside, it features Changan's latest dual-screen design, showcasing a familial aesthetic. As a pickup truck model, the interior boasts ample technological features.
The Changan Hunter is available in both long bed and standard bed versions. The dimensions for the long bed version are 5630/1930/1885 millimeters (length/width/height) with a wheelbase of 3430 millimeters. The standard bed version measures 5380/1980/1875 millimeters with a wheelbase of 3180 millimeters.
In terms of power, the Changan Hunter utilizes range-extender technology, equipped with a 2.0T Blue Whale range extender engine, delivering a maximum power of 140 kW. It comes in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions.
The rear-wheel drive model is equipped with a 130 kW rear-mounted electric motor, while the four-wheel drive version features a combination of 70 kW and 130 kW dual motors, achieving 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.9 seconds, showcasing impressive power performance compared to similar level fuel-powered pickups.
Under CLTC conditions, the pure electric range is 180 kilometers, with a comprehensive range of 1031 kilometers. It supports mobile discharging function, and the 3.3 kW high-power discharging panel is compatible with dual 220V plugs and reserves up to 227 degrees of energy.
Currently, there are no hybrid pickup trucks available in the domestic market. The introduction of the Changan Hunter will fill this gap. Compared to conventional fuel-powered pickups, hybrid pickups have unique advantages in terms of power, fuel economy, and off-grid charging capabilities.
Moreover, the starting price of the Changan Hunter is only 140,000 CNY. Even compared to the upcoming pickup from BYD, it offers a good value proposition.
After the Changan Hunter hits the market, it remains to be seen whether it can compete with the Great Wall Cannon and the Shanhai pickup for market share. We eagerly await the outcome.
