On February 24th, news broke of a fire incident in a community in Nanjing, resulting in 15 fatalities and 44 injuries.

In a report by Nanjing TV's legal affairs program "On the Scene of Law" in 2022, residents of Ming Shang Xi Yuan had raised concerns about the ground-level mezzanine packed with electric bicycles, posing fire hazards.

Residents noted that the area, designated as resettlement housing, likely saw the fire ignite due to electric bike charging on the ground floor mezzanine, which then spread upwards, igniting several floors.

Additionally, images from residents revealed the exterior facade of the fire-stricken community, with over 10 floors charred black, and vehicles reduced to mere frames.

In reality, do you grasp the gravity of electric bicycle fires? Experimental data illustrates that within 30 seconds of ignition, toxic fumes can engulf entire rooms and corridors, leading to potentially fatal accidents.

The Shanxi Fire Department recently released a video demonstrating the hazards of electric bicycle fires. Flames can erupt from the battery's surface within 5 seconds, while within 30 seconds, the ensuing toxic smoke can fill entire rooms and corridors. Within 90 seconds, temperatures can reach 200°C, and after 3 minutes, the fire intensifies dramatically, with temperatures soaring to 1000 degrees.

Toxic, hot smoke ascends stairwells at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per floor, creating a chimney effect. This phenomenon primarily contributes to casualties in electric bicycle fires. Hence, it's crucial to refrain from charging electric bicycles in building corridors. s_65e300e4a1c741309ced94efa5a7d0e2.jpg
