Tech news from Fast Technology on February 21st reports that according to the 2023 ranking of Chinese companies' PCT international patent applications jointly released by IPRdaily and incoPat, Huawei takes the lead with a whopping 7,822 applications.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of China's accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), and Chinese applicants have maintained their position as the world's number one in terms of international patent applications filed through the PCT for four consecutive years.
Analyzing PCT international patent applications publicly disclosed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) from January 1st to December 31st, 2023, Chinese applicants accounted for 26.72% of the total.
Among the top 100 applicants, there are 10 companies with over 1,000 applications each. Huawei leads the pack with 7,822 patents, followed by CATL with 2,153 patents, and BOE Technology with 2,002 patents.
OPPO and ZTE rank fourth and fifth with 1,849 and 1,802 applications, respectively.
Rounding up the top ten are vivo, Haier Smart Home, Xiaomi Communications, ByteDance, and TCL Huaxing.
PCT international patents offer a "one application, global protection" approach, suitable for applicants seeking patent protection in multiple countries or regions, requiring the submission of a single international application.
