On February 8th, Fast Technology reported that Patriot has announced its latest PCIe 5.0 SSD, the Viper PV553, which not only features a fan but also boasts a fiercely brutal turbine-style one.
Moreover, it comes with a 16.5mm thick aluminum heat sink, claiming that combined with the fan, it can reduce the SSD's temperature by up to 40%.
To tame the heat beast that is the Qunlian E26 controller, manufacturers have certainly faced a tough challenge. However, even so, the performance is somewhat lacking.
The BoDi Viper PV553 boasts Micron's 232-layer stacked B58R 3D TLC NAND flash, with capacities of 1/2/4TB. The 2/4TB variants deliver consistent performance, with sequential read/write speeds of 12.4GB/s and 11.8GB/s, respectively, and random read/write speeds of 1.4 million IOPS.
The 1TB version falls slightly behind, offering sequential read/write speeds of 11.7GB/s and 9.5GB/s, with random read/write speeds of 1.3 million IOPS and 1.4 million IOPS, respectively.
Write endurance stands at 700TBW, 1400TBW, and 3000TBW for the respective capacities, backed by a five-year warranty, averaging 0.38-0.41 full drive writes per day.
It's worth noting that PNY's previous release, the CS3150 PCIe 5.0 SSD, also utilized two fans, yet its peak performance only reached 12GB/s read and 10GB/s write speeds.
