154 People and 390 Projects Win 2023 Invention and Entrepreneurship Awards

On April 12th, the 18th China Inventors Forum and the Invention and Entrepreneurship Awards Ceremony, along with the Fourth National Council and Member Representatives Conference of the China Association of Inventions, were held in Beijing. Over 300 representatives from the national scientific, inventors, business, and investment communities attended the event.

The winners of the 2023 Invention and Entrepreneurship Awards were announced during the meeting. Out of 508 candidates for the "Invention and Entrepreneurship Awards · Individual Award," 154 individuals were honored, including 15 who were awarded the title of "Contemporary Inventor." Wu Zhaohui, Chairman of the China Association of Inventions and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, pointed out that artificial intelligence technology is accelerating its integration with major scientific discoveries, frontier technological innovations, and product applications, forming new ways, tools, and scenarios, thus bringing new opportunities to the development of new productive forces through invention and innovation in the new era. He hopes that the China Association of Inventions can accurately grasp the essence and characteristics of the new productive forces, seize the new opportunities for the development of artificial intelligence, and continuously promote the advancement of China's invention cause.

Lu Pengqi, Deputy Director General of the National Intellectual Property Administration, stated that this year is a crucial year for the implementation of the Special Action Plan for Patent Transformation and Application. First, efforts should be made to expedite the inventory activation of patents in universities and research institutions to form a convertible patent pool. Second, the implementation of the plan to promote the industrialization of patents should effectively address the difficulties in patent transformation in universities and research institutes and the difficulties in technology acquisition for small and medium-sized enterprises. Third, the comprehensive implementation of the patent open licensing system should be carried out to improve the efficiency of patent transformation.

Xue Qikun, President of the Southern University of Science and Technology and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Jin Ronghua, President of the Beijing Ditan Hospital, Capital Medical University, respectively delivered keynote speeches. Xue Qikun emphasized that technological innovation is the core element of developing new productive forces, and it is necessary to strengthen technological innovation, especially original and disruptive technological innovation, to achieve high-level technological self-reliance. Jin Ronghua believed that only innovation can solve problems and enhance capabilities. The interdisciplinary, cross-professional, and cross-industry integration and collaboration of knowledge, skills, inventions, and talent teams are the "ultimate solution" for early warning, tracing, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases.

The China Association of Inventions established the system of academicians in 2018. At this conference, Xue Qikun, Jin Ronghua, and other 10 outstanding talents in various disciplines became the seventh batch of academicians of the China Association of Inventions. During the Fourth National Congress of the Eighth Council and Member Representatives of the China Association of Inventions, meetings such as the symposium of new member representatives were held to jointly study and promote various measures for the development of invention and innovation.
